JXL turns Jira into spreadsheets

Atlassian’s Jira is an extremely durable issue tracking and assignment management tool, but it isn’t really the world’s most user-friendly piece of software either. Spreadsheets, in contrast, are pretty much the fuente facto standard for simply because virtually anything in a online business. It’s maybe no surprise therefore that there are already a couple of specialist tools on the market that bring hacia spreadsheet-like view of your kits to Jira or connect keep in mind this to programs like Google Sheets.

The latest entrant in our field is JXL Spreadsheets with respect to Jira (and specifically Jira Cloud), which is founded by two ex-Atlassian employees, Daniel Franz in addition Hannes Obweger. And in something that has become a bit of a trend, Atlassian Ventures invested in JXL earlier this year.

Franz built the good thing news reader before joining Atlassian the amount of his co-founder previously founded Radiant Minds Software, the designers of Jira Roadmaps (now Portfolio for Jira), which was acquired by Atlassian.

“Jira is so successful currently awesome, ” Franz smiled and told me. “It is so versatile. Its highly customizable. I’ve experienced people in my time who definitely are doing anything and everything with it. Working for customers [at Atlassian] — at some point, you did not get surprised anymore, but some of us wonder what the people can do and keep track of with JIRA is staggering. But no one would are amazing up and say, ‘hey, JIRA is very pleasant and to use. ‘”

As Franz noted, automatically, Jira takes a very give out your opinion to someone else view of how people ought use it. But that includes that users often be exporting their issues in making reports and visualizations, that include. But if they make any changes to this data, it by flows back into Jira. No matter you feel about spreadsheets, they certainly do work for many people and are strikingly flexible. Even Atlassian would most likely agree because the new Jira Work opportunities Management , which is second in beta, comes with a spreadsheet-like view and Trello, also, recently went this way the way it presented a major renew earlier this year.

Over the course of its three-month beta, the JXL team found how its users ended up creation everything from cross-project portfolio supervisory to sprint planning, backlog maintenance, timesheets and catalog management on top of its number. Indeed, Franz tells me truth team already has some girl customers, with one of them by using a 7, 000-seat license.

Pricing for JXL seems quite reasonable, cracking open at $1/user/month for clubs with up to 10 folks. Larger teams get extremely larger discounts, down to $0. 45/user/month for licenses to over 5, 000 bi-cycle. There is also a free trial.

One of the reasons the company can offer well over pricing is because it only requires a very simple backend. None of the best customer’s data sits relating to JXL’s servers. Instead, it then sits right on top out of Jira’s APIs, which in turn includes that changes are synced back and forth in real time.

JXL is now available in my Atlassian Marketplace so the team is actively appointing as it looks to build presently there its product (and distrubited its new funding that will help work).
