State of the art tech to prevent Li-ion wide array fires

Materials scientists coming from Nanyang Technological University Singapore have found a way to prevent cell short-circuits, the main cause of that will fire in Li-ion batteries.

Billions of Lithium ion batteries are produced on a yearly basis for use in mobile phones, laptops, extremely mobile devices, and the huge battery packs of electric vehicles as well as the aircraft.

This one global battery demand is placed to grow, with electric cortege alone requiring up to some, 700 GWh worth attached to Li-ion batteries a year at 2030, equivalent to some 240 billion mobile phone batteries.

Even with an estimated lack of success rate of less than one-in-a-million, in 2020 there were 18 power-assisted bicycle (PAB) that will fire and 42 cases of private mobility device fires near Singapore.

In most Lithium ion battery fires, the cause as a result of a build-up of li (symbol) deposits known as dendrites (tiny wire-like tendrils) that combinate the separator between the people who are positive (cathode) and negative (anode) electrodes of the battery if it’s being charged, causing a short-circuit leading to an uncontrolled chemical type fire.

In order to such battery fires, NTU scientists invented a patent-pending “anti-short layer” that can be immediately added inside a Li-ion solar battery, preventing any future short-circuits from occurring during the asking for process.

This concept is akin to adding a fabulous slice of cheese toward a hamburger’s meat patty in the middle of the buns, thus the recent “anti-short layer” can be aggressively adopted in current electrical power manufacturing.
